Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a scam?

No. We're partnered with the owners of the Dota2Group Facebook community and we're building tools for the community (tournaments, leagues, events) inside Discord.

Who are you / who runs this?

We're the team building the Rivals event system for the Dota2Group community, alongside the existing Dota2Group owners/admins.

Why do I need to link Discord?

Because events, announcements, verification, and support happen inside Discord. Linking Discord ensures your access is tied to the right account.

Why do I need to link Steam?

We use your Steam ID to connect you to Dota 2 so we can verify you're a real player, help with match/lobby flows, and show relevant stats and rankings.

What data can you see from Steam?

Only your Steam ID. We cannot see your purchases, inventory, chat, private info, or anything invasive.

What data can you see from Discord?

Only your Discord user ID (and basic account identity). We use it to confirm it's really you when you join the server and to connect your access.

Do I still need to register using the link?

Yes. Registration is what unlocks full server access and verifies your Steam/Discord IDs.

Why do this when Dotabuff/Stratz exists?

Dotabuff/Stratz are mainly stats and match history tools. We're focused on community infrastructure: running matches, tournaments, leagues, and events inside Discord, with tools to organise participation.

I can't find the login bar / I'm on mobile.

You don't need a separate "login bar" in most cases. Complete the registration flow on Dota2Group.com using the same Discord/Steam you play with. If something looks missing on mobile, tell us what device/browser you're on and we'll fix it.

What do I do after registering?

Once you register, go back to Discord — your access should update. If it doesn't, ping an admin and we'll sort it out.

Where will tournament details be posted so they don't get buried?

We'll post tournament details in an Announcements channel (and/or a dedicated tournament channel) so it won't get buried in chat.

Are there skill-bracket tournaments (e.g., Divine–Immortal)?

Yes. We'll be running bracketed tournaments (including higher MMR brackets) as we lock in numbers.

When is the next tournament and what's the prize pool?

We'll announce the exact date/time, format, and prize pool in the tournament announcement post. We're targeting early March for the next one.

Can I create my own match / league / tournament?

Yes. Once you have access, you can create single matches, leagues, and tournaments. Use the Rivals app inside the server and type /help to see commands and examples.

Can we set entry fees / prize pools?

Yes — for supported formats you can run games for free or set entry fees / prize pools (where available). Details will be in event setup.

Where do I find the Rivals app?

Inside the main Discord server. Once you're verified and in the full server, you'll see channels and prompts that reference Rivals. Use /help in a channel to get started.

Where do I learn the commands quickly?

Check the dedicated "how to create Dota games" channel (if visible) and use /help for a command list.

Who do I DM if I'm stuck?

DM an admin (or ask in the registration/support channel). We want your feedback — if anything feels confusing, we'll improve it.

Can coaches/casters get involved?

Yes — we're planning space for coaches/casters to promote services and participate in events. If you do coaching/casting, tell us your background.
